Americas account for 42.6% of the global software market's value.

All of the Software Giants today are very much part of Open-Source Community in the past!!

Softwares in the past are FREE and are really made to sell Hardwares (Computer Chips or I.C. == Indian and Chinese) ONLY!!

However, the Software Giants today are Entrepreneurs who find GREAT Business Models for their Software Expertises!!

BTW, the most INNOVATIVE Software Technologies had always been from the Open-Source Community! It is still true today!! >=)

1st example that prompted cloud was Amazon themselves - their own website needed many time the power in Decemeber than in January. Others are the latest Mars lander. If the flight failed they didn't need any of the stuff to process images so they used cloud IaaS. NewYork time wants to convert 90 years of scanned images from tiff to jpeg. A single server would have taken years - apparently they did it in a few days on the cloud for a few hundred dollars.

"Oracle and Ellison are both? dorks, I don't support their business practices."

Legolover64,

Oracle is a company not a person, and Larry Ellison is CEO of Oracle!

Anyhow, last I checked, Oracle is still king of Database Market!!

Here is the question though!

How many people out there are going to entrust another organizations with their own Critical DATA?

I wouldn't!! I rather have my Critical DATA stay in my very own Data Centers!! >=)

SPIN MONKEYS in the IT (Information Technology) Industry created the BUZZ WORD "Cloud Computing"!

Cloud Computing = Data Centers or Clusters of HPC (High-performance Computing) renting out their Processing Power!!

Could someone please give a few examples of such scenario where your computing needs spikes exponentially for such short period of time that only a "cloud" can be cost effective?
